Minimizing Waste & Protecting Our Environment
Reducing waste, reusing items, and recycling are three important steps anyone can take to minimize waste and protect our environment. Recycling or Disposal Questions
“For questions on how to get rid of most anything click on Ramsey County's Recycling and Disposal Guide or call 651-633-EASY (3279).  This hotline is answered 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and interpretive services are available. Tip: It is important not to use plastic bags and do not put items in bags as they do not get ripped open at the recycling facility.

Garbage Collection Services
Garbage collection is provided by licensed haulers. Residents may choose a garbage hauler from the list of licensed haulers in the City. Most garbage haulers provide recycling services. Recycling is required to be collected by haulers and apartments must offer recycling. Food Scraps Collection
Residents can now bring their food waste and non-recyclable paper to Ramsey County Yard Waste Sites.  For more information about what is accepted and locations see "visit Ramsey County's Food Scraps Collection webpage".

Fix-It Clinic
Have broken stuff lying around?  Don't trash it - fix it!  Bring things like small household appliances, clothing, electronics and more to a free Fix-It Clinic.  Volunteer fixers will help you to disassemble, troubleshoot and repair your item.  Fore more information visit Ramsey County Fix-It Clinic page.

Unwanted Medicine Drop Off Locations
Safely dispose of unwanted, expired and unused medicines for FREE at one of three public drop boxes in Ramsey County. For more information visit "Ramsey County's Unwanted Medicine Site".

Event Containers
Whether you're hosting a block party, graduation, family reunion, or other gathering, make it a green event! Consider using recycling and organics containers to reduce waste. These portable containers collapse for transport and come with your choice of signage and bags that attach to the assembled frame. RECYCLING AMBASSADOR
Recycling Ambassadors undergo a six-week training to learn more about environmental health. Using knowledge gained, Recycling Ambassadors volunteer 20 hours or more annually to encourage others to reduce, reuse and recycle. Topics covered in the training include:

  • Waste systems in Ramsey County.  
  • Composting.  
  • Climate change. 
  • Environmental justice. 
  • Household hazardous waste. 
  • General recycling. 

The trainings will take place virtually using Zoom from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. every Wednesday from Sept. 20 -- Oct. 25.  

Volunteer activities include tabling at community events, participating in neighborhood clean-ups, assisting at monthly Fix-It Clinics and more!
