Manufactured Homes
The definition of Manufactured home in the United States is regulated by federal law: "Manufactured homes are built as dwelling units of at least 320 square feet in size with a permanent chassis to assure the initial and continued transportability of the home." 

Manufactured Home Parks
A manufactured home park is defined as a contiguous parcel of privately owned land, which is used for the accommodation of three or more manufactured homes occupied for year-round living.

Installation or re-installation of a manufactured home may not begin until the permit and all necessary paperwork is reviewed and approved by the City Building Official. Mounds View uses the same policies and procedures as the MN Department of Labor and Industry’s Construction Codes and Licensing Division for all document submittals, installations, and inspections.

Building officials enforcing the MN State Building Code are required to issue permits and inspect all permitted work done to manufactured homes within their jurisdictions. In Mounds View, a building or zoning permit is required for any project that involves constructing, altering, repairing, moving, or demolishing to a manufactured home or on the property. Examples include: fences, driveways, parking pads, patios, siding, roofing, windows, doors, decks, pools (over 24” deep & 5,000 gallons), and sheds (accessory structures). Significant alterations to any manufactured home is not allowed without a licensed engineer’s designs. Also, any work on gas, mechanical, electrical, plumbing or other home systems which are regulated by the code are required to be permitted.
