Storm Water

Public Works is responsible for the operation and maintenance of Mounds View's Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). Mounds View has nine drainage districts which are further broken into sub drainage districts. All municipal storm water runoff from these drainage districts ultimately discharge to Rice  Creek.

A NPDES/SDS MS4 general permit provides the City the needed approval to discharge it's storm water to Rice Creek. This permit is mandated by federal regulations under the Clean Water Act and administered by the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. The primary goal of the MS4 general permit is to improve water quality by reducing pollutants in storm water discharges.

The MS4 general permit requires Mounds View to create a Storm Water Pollution Prevention Program (SWPPP)* addressing six Minimum Control Measures (MCM). Each MCM has various Best Management Practices (BMPs) to address the primary goal of the MS4 general permit.
*The SWPPP  page is currently under construction. Please refer back for updates.

ADOPT A STORM DRAIN!
Routine maintenance for the Public Works Department is to clear off debris from all of the storm drains in Mounds View. Unfortunately there are some storms drains that are more susceptible to collecting debris and need more frequent cleaning. If you would like to assist the City with cleaning off the debris, please consider Adopting a Storm Drain
